Singakwenza means "We can do it!"

Be part of the solution, and change the course of a child's life.

We train practitioners, parents and caregivers to give young children fun, educational play every day, using toys made from recycling.

We have the power to impact our children's future, and we're doing something about it.

Singakwenza is a non-profit focused on early childhood education. We work at grassroots level in economically disadvantaged communities, training the adults in a child's life to provide daily, play-based learning.

Every toy and teaching resource we use is made from household packaging. So when one breaks, it costs nothing to make another.

It is the play that is important, not how much the toys cost.

A skipping rope made from bread bags builds the same skills as one bought from a shop. All you need is a caring adult, a pair of scissors, a marker and a pile of recycling.

Our programmes

Four ways we help young children build the foundations for learning.

For crèche practitioners

Training & Mentorship

Weekly, on-site training and mentoring for at least two years, so practitioners can run a fun, structured play programme on their own.

Singakwenza taught me how to make educational toys by using recycling. Now we don't buy toys. We collect plastic bottles and lids, and bread bags to make jumping ropes. These toys are so helpful to us because we don't have enough money to buy expensive toys.
